UK firm Cobbetts cuts NQ pay by almost 20% in 3 years
Mid tier UK firm Cobbetts has reduced pay to newly qualified solicitors by nearly 20 per cent over the last three years. In 2008, newly qualified solicitors in the firm’s Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London offices earned £37k upon qualification, but the class of 2011 can expect just £31k. Mark Thompson, head of HR at the firm, confirmed that NQ salaries had fallen from £37k to £30k, before rising slightly to £31k this year. He explained that cuts had been implemented to "enable the firm to retain more trainees", and denied that any reductions had been imposed on associates further up the line.
