Pay gap between US and UK law firms widens

The pay gap between lawyers in the UK and thos in the US is widening, with a new survey showing that magic circle firms pay newly qualified lawyers around £61,000 US firm White & Case pays its NQs £70,000, Shearman & Sterling pays £73,000, Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker pays £80,000 and Latham & Watkins pays £97,500. The best pay for newly qualified associates can be found at US firm Bingham McCutcheon, which pays £100,000. A 6PQE at a magic circle firm will take home between £95,000 and £105,000, while a lawyer at Kirkland & Ellis can expect to take home £110,000 (plus bonus) in their third year after qualification.
