New Chair at O'Melveny & Myers says things are looking up
O'Melveny & Myers is set to gain new leadership with the appointment of Bradley Butwin as chairman. Butwin is looking on the bright side, portraying the departure of more than 100 partners since 2007 (around 35 of whom left the firm this year) as "an opportunity", and opining that firm now has "a greater sense of unity ... because everyone who's here now has a high degree of confidence in the firm." Butwin, who is also the chair of the firm’s litigation department, will replace longtime chairman, Arthur "A.B." Culvahouse Jr. He plans to expand the litigation and corporate practices by, for example, leveraging litigation-side relationships to bring in more transactional work. Alternative fee arrangements will also be a key part of his strategy, and are expected boost the number of big corporate cases for the litigation department.
