Litigation support services in high demand
A new survey put together by New York-based headhunter and consultancy The Cowen Group has attempted to evaluate the ratio of salaries to revenue within law firms, with some interesting results. In 2011 litigation support services brought in around $275 million in revenue, with law firms employing about 2,600 litigation support and EDD professionals, and spending $200 million on salaries. It is predicted that revenue from these services will jump by 105 per cent this year to $535 million, with 57 per cent of firms adding staff this year, creating 375 new positions. The report cites a number of factors driving the growth of the litigation support workforce: first, there is a greater workload, with 86 per cent of surveyed firms reporting an increase in their litigation support caseload. In addition, firms are looking to hire in areas that attract high billings at a relatively low cost, and litigation support fits the bill nicely.
