US firm Holland & Knight to launch in Columbia
Miami-based law firm Holland & Knight has announced further expansion in Latin America with the imminent launch of new office in Bogotá, Colombia. The firm will join Baker & McKenzie as the only major US firms with offices in Colombia, though Bakers’ presence is far more established, with five decades in the country. UK firm Norton Rose also has an office in Bogotá, which was established in 2010. Holland & Knight's Bogotá office will launch with one partner and two associates, with a focus on advising foreign companies with inbound investment, but also offering services to Colombian companies on outbound work. The office will be led by partner Enrique Gómez-Pinzón who will relocate from the firm’s Washington DC office. "We have been experiencing a lot of increased demand of work in Colombia," Gómez-Pinzón said. Most of the growth, he says, has come from mergers and acqusitions, financings, and other corporate transactions. The firm expects that work to increase given the signing of the Colombia-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and the planned expansion of the Panama Canal.
