India's fly-in-fly-out rule for foreign lawyers challenged

The Bar Council of India has sought special leave from the Supreme Court to appeal the Madras High Court ruling that foreign lawyers can temporarily travel to India to advise clients. The Bar Council is represented by Senior Advocate NM Krishnamani and Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, who argue that foreign lawyers should not be allowed to practise foreign or domestic law, even on a temporary “fly-in-fly-out” basis. Covington Burling and White & Case are represented by Senior Counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Dua Associates. A total of 31 foreign law firms are named in the pleadings.
