UK firms Howard Kennedy and Finers Stephens Innocent to merge

West End firm Howard Kennedy has merged with rival firm Finers Stephens Innocent to create a combined firm with a headcount of 87-partners and 125 associates. Howard Kennedy has had a difficult few years, with mass redundancies, resignations, and the loss of 10% of its partners in February. This latest move was made under the new leadership of Mark Dembovsky, who was recently brought on as CEO.   The new firm will operate under the banner of Howard Kennedy FSI, and will be led by Dembovsky. RollOnFriday opines that in order to fulfil its ambitions the firm will have to increase its ratio of associates to partners, since leading firms have around three fee-earners to every partner. Dembovsky commented that the firm plans to recruit junior lawyers.
