Simmons allies with US firm Seward & Kissell

Simmons & Simmons has formed a non-exclusive alliance with funds specialist firm Seward & Kissel, executing its plan to establish a presence in the US after abandoning merger talks with Mayer Brown in 2010. Simmons senior partner Colin Passmore told Legal Week: “The alliance was formed in response to a specific opportunity, and it will allow us to expand our offering to our hedge fund and asset management clients in relation to their US law requirements. We've had a longstanding relationship with Seward & Kissel and we’re pleased the alliance is up and running.” The alliance will involve mutual referrals as well as secondments between the two firms, but both firms will maintain referral arrangements with other firms and there is no plan to move toward a merger in the future.
