Law Society of Ireland reports increased Irish enrollment by English lawyers

Following this year’s Brexit-related uncertainty, an increasing number of English lawyers have sought to be admitted in Ireland. According to the Law Society of Ireland, a record number of English solicitors have been admitted in Ireland, with 810 qualified solicitors having been admitted thus far. The previous record was set in 2008, when more than 500 solicitors were admitted in Ireland. The increase, which represents a 275 per cent increase over 2015, is credited primarily to Brexit, as top firms seek to secure additional jurisdictions for their lawyers. Eversheds, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Slaughter and May are among the firms whose lawyers have been admitted in Ireland this year.
