HSF wins legal challenge against former Australian partners
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has won a legal challenge in which 166 partners brought a claim against eight former partners who exited the firm to join White & Case. As a result, the former HSF partners will be excluded from White & Case partnership for a six-month period. The decision was announced by Justice Robert McDougall on 2 March, following a court hearing that began on 27 February. The partners originally resigned from HSF in September 2016. The former HSF partners can become partners at White & Case as of 2 September 2017, at which point they will also no longer be barred from bringing on any HSF employees or clients.
