Gender gap at London's elite law firms

September 8, 2008 Women make up an average of just over 14 per cent of the partnership at the UK's four largest "Magic Circle'' firms - Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Allen & Overy.

Senior lawyers said boosting the number of women partners had proved difficult in a profession notorious for its long hours and hard-driving, even "macho" culture.
