Freshfields plans to relaunch in Singapore after five years' absence

Magic Circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is planning to relaunch its Singapore office, nearly five years after shutting down its former office in the region. The partnership council is due to consider the move this week, with a proposed launch date in Autumn. The new office will focus on arbitration, corporate, projects and energy work, and would function as a strategic access point for India. One Freshfields partner said: “Singapore is being talked about all the time as the firm’s next strategic move. Hong Kong has become a greater China hub and Singapore is becoming the hub of Southeast Asia.
