Real estate team leaves Portland firm Ball Janik to launch new firm
A real estate team has departed Portland law firm Ball Janik to launch a new law firm under the name Radler White Parks & Alexander. The departures come after protracted internal disputes at the firm, which was formerly a real estate boutique before expanding to develop a construction defect practice. After the onset of the recession the real estate practice became less lucrative, while the construction defect practice was boosted by increased litigation claims. Departing partner Dina Alexander said: “Organizations evolve and I think this organization is evolving … It’s to the point that the litigation practice is becoming the biggest practice in terms of number of people and revenue. For some of us, it made us thing it was time to get back to the basics of real estate and land-use. … In our opinion, there are some inherent inconsistencies and certainly some conflicts when you have a group that represents developers and another group that represents homeowners.”
