Butler Snow hires 37-lawyer team in Nashville, US
Mississipi-based firm Butler Snow O'Mara Stevens and Cannada is set to expand its Nashville presence with the hire of a 37-lawyer team from Miller & Martin. The new hires will bring the firm's headcount to about 220, across 12 offices. Trouble has been brewing for some time at Miller & Martin, and last year partners voted to remove their chairman from a leadership role. The current chairman, James Haley, said: "There may be various reasons for this decision, but the overriding reason has to do with different philosophies about how to build and expand our practice. While we worked hard to reach consensus on a common direction, it became clear that was not going to be possible." He added: "We decided that it was better for us to pursue our growth strategies separately. We remain committed to having a presence in the Nashville market."
