US firm Orrick chooses a new chairperson

Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has selected Silicon Valley–based corporate partner Mitchell Zuklie to chair the firm. Zuklie succeeds former chair Ralph Baxter Jr, who steps down at the end of 2013 after over two decades at the head of the 1,100-attorney firm. Zuklie was one of four Orrick partners vying for the top job. The other contenders were Los Angeles–based finance partner Alan Benjamin, San Francisco–based litigator Walter Brown, and New York–based litigator James Stengel. "We are fortunate to have at Orrick a great many partners who could have very ably filled this role," Zuklie said in a statement issued by the firm announcing his elevation to chair. “And I am looking forward to working closely with all of them in managing the firm in the years ahead.”
