Simpson Thacher to practice Hong Kong law

Since New York-based Simpson Thacher & Bartlett launched an office in Hong Kong in 1993, the firm has practiced only US law. That is all about to change: the firm has announced that it will launch a Hong Kong law practice later this year, after hiring new practice leaders and undergoing the regulatory approval process. The new partners are Celia Lam, who serves as co-managing partner in Greater China at Linklaters, and the former chief of China corporate practice at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Christopher Wong. Pete Ruegger, Chairman of Simpson Thacher’s Executive Committee commented, “Celia and Chris are preeminent corporate lawyers in the Greater China market. We are delighted that they will join us as we expand our China practice to include the offering of Hong Kong law. The addition of their skills and talent will strengthen the already outstanding capability that we offer clients in transactions involving Greater China.”
