Major law firms step up efforts to retain and promote women

Herbert Smith, Hogan Lovells, Simmons & Simmons and Addleshaw Goddard are among large number of law firms that are launching new initiatives aiming to retain and promote more female lawyers. Herbert Smith is plans to increase the number of women in its partnership, with a programme including unconscious bias training; flexible working initiatives; mentoring; career development and networking advice; and the expansion of its network for women in business to include its international offices. Hogan Lovells will launch mentoring programmes as well as boosting support fr the firm’s flexible working policies for those below partner level. Simmons is also planning to implement a mentoring scheme, while Addleshaws plans to increase the number of women in its partnership from 20% to 25% by 2014.
